Woensdag 29 maart

Vandaag was er op kantoor helemaal niemand. Catherine had een dagje vrij en de mannen waren allemaal op reis. Helemaal niemand is trouwens niet helemaal waar, want SIS bestaat behalve uit mijn cluppie ook uit SIS Internal Services. Die waren vandaag compleet (met z’n drieën) dus ik hoorde af en toe nog wat geluid aan de andere kant van onze kantoorruimte.
Tijdens de lunch heb ik de bus genomen naar Carouge, een buitenwijk van Genève. Volgens de beschrijving op internet zou Carouge het Quartier Latin van Genève moeten zijn, maar ik denk niet dat de schrijver dezes ooit zelf in Parijs is geweest. Misschien lag het aan het weer of aan het tijdstip, maar ik heb van al die gezellige straatjes, pleintjes, marktjes, cafeetjes, restaurantjes en barretjes welgeteld één halve markt gezien. Ook de talloze intellectuelen, studenten, kunstenaars, hippies en andere buitenlui heb ik er niet kunnen ontwaren. In de buurt van Genève is er eigenlijk maar op één plek ergens iets te doen en dat is in Genève.

Na de lunch stortte ik mij weer op Excell voor gevorderden (zie resultaat hierboven) en heb ik mij gewijd aan een korte evaluatie van de eerste 7 weken werken bij SIS. Zoals afgesproken heb mijn bespiegelingen per e-mail aan Christophe verzonden, ter voorbereiding op ons gesprek van aanstaande vrijdag.

Dear Christophe,

As discussed last week, I send you this short evaluation. Looking back at the first 7 weeks of my time with SIS I mainly see positive things. I have felt at home since the first day. My colleagues gave me a warm welcome and everyone is trying to help me as much as possible. I think it shows the team spirit of the group.

Regarding the work itself, I like the issues we are dealing with in Geneva. I especially enjoyed the MPR with Germany. It is interesting to see how things work on an international level. I hope I can attend some supplier meetings and PM Team meetings as well.

Working on the purchase book, the quarter forms and other, more administrative tasks is less spectacular. But I am learning a lot about our suppliers and the different countries and companies. It helps me to understand more of the business and I consider it as an investment in the future.

Regarding my capability to speak French I am less satisfied. Although I picked up quite a lot at the beginning, now I am not making enough progression anymore. I really would like to speak the language much better.That is why I would like to ask you if I could schedule another week at Regina Coelie, to give the learning process another boost.

All in all I am happy in Geneva. I like the job, the people and the city.
